Week in History: September 24 - 30
Events that occurred during the week of September 24th through the 30th in South Florida's history.
OTD: September 27, 1963 - Demolition of Downtown FEC Station
On September 27, 1963, demolition of Miami's downtown Florida East Coast Railway Station began. The station opened in 1912 and was the second permanent railway station in downtown Miami. Locals complained about how the train depot would constrict automobile traffic in and around the county courthouse. The razing of the structure was met more with celebration than nostalgia when it was demolished in 1963.
